Small Home Advisor

Role Overview

Backyard ADU’s Small Home Advisor is responsible for ensuring prospects become clients [when they are ready] and shepherding client projects from Backyard’s initial interaction with them to move-in day. 

This means the Advisor must know a little bit about everything, have a keen sense for when their knowledge is lacking, the initiative to address this gap in knowledge and a knack for execution. Advisors are rewarded for moving projects systematically through the Backyard’s phases and creating an excellent client experience. 

The Advisor will also be the local face of Backyard ADUs and be a local expert in town rules and local happenings. 

  • If there is a new small development happening on Landy Ave, you’ll know about it. 

  • If there is a contentious ADU debate occurring in Cape Elizabeth, you’ll know about it. 

  • If there is local or state legislation posed to impact your current or future clients, you’ll know about it. 

Daily Activities

  • Manage customer relationships through email, Zoom, in-person, and phone calls. Clients must be contacted at least weekly

  • Keep Hubspot client and project cards up to date (project notes, project stage, etc.)

  • Work with outside vendors (surveyors, septic designers, engineers, etc) and Backyard’s internal team on your client’s project. 

  • Prepare and review construction contracts

  • Guide clients through the home design process including utilizing Home Design Software and coordinating with BADU Designer. 

  • Help clients choose finishes

  • Help clients make cost/benefit decisions to meet their goals

  • Help clients set their project goals

  • Do zoning research to understand opportunities and restrictions for your client

  • Coorindate local events and nurture local relationships

Skills and Abilities

  • Must be familiar with construction and renovation practices. This can come from on-the-job experience OR extensive DIY experience. 

  • Must be familiar with zoning, permitting, and town practices. This can come from on-the-job experience OR extensive DIY experience. 

  • Must be familiar with building code and general building requirements for purposes of being an intermediary between the design team and client. This can be learned prior to starting work. 

  • Knowledge and ability to use word processing, spreadsheets (Excel and Google Sheets), managing files and records (Google Drive), and other procedures and terminology.

  • Must be a fastidious note taker and/or pay close attention to detail. Over the course of the client relationship dozens of ideas are discussed, and it’s important to remember them and know which should be included in a final construction contract.

Qualifications

  • College degree preferred

  • Work or extensive personal experience in real estate or construction related field

  • Must come from a client-facing background. Consultative sales or advisory experience is preferred.

  • Must have a proven track record of managing multiple complex projects at once.

Hours 

Working hours are flexible in order to balance personal life and client service, e.g. If work can take a Saturday, life can take a Thursday. 

  • 35 hours of direct project work

  • 5 hours of local community involvement (Participation in BADU Community Events, Work on developing community connections to local business owners, Attend Housing events with local non-profit organizations. 

  • Self-Driven Continuing Education expected outside of dedicated project work hours.

Location

Must live in their region 

Work will occur remotely and at client sites

Pay

Base Salary: $65,000

Incentive Pay: Additional $15,000 – $60,000 (Based on number of projects successfully overseen)
